Tricks of the Trade-In
What are car wholesalers looking for?
Essentially, wholesalers and car dealers are looking for a car with great service history that comes with a complete service history stamped in logbooks. They are also looking for cars that have fair wear and tear – it’s normal for cars that are slightly older to have a few signs of aging (we all have it), however they will usually reduce the trade-in price for dents, low grip tyres and poor service history.
Learning the lingo
Wholesalers use the term ‘spend’ when pricing a car. Also, what you might not always know is they’ll want to know what spend has been put towards the car. In other words: what it will cost for them to complete a roadworthy check and to fix any panel work pre-sale, so someone gets to love your old car as much as you did.
How to find the best deal for your trade-in
With all of this in mind, it can sometimes come as a shock when your old car is valued less than you originally thought.
